NSF NHERI Experts Available to Discuss Venezuela Earthquake Impacts

 

 

West Lafayette, IN, June 25, 2026 — Earthquake engineering researchers from the U.S. National Science Foundation-supported Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) network are available to discuss issues related to infrastructure and environmental damage from the June 24, 2026, earthquakes that struck Venezuela.

As well as damage to buildings and and civil infrastructure, earthquakes frequently trigger cascading events such as landslides and tsunamis.

NHERI experts are versed on the following topics:

  • Computational earthquake simulation and modeling
  • Physical and cyber-physical earthquake simulation, earthquake-resilient design and materials, structural monitoring, earthquake-generated tsunamis
  • Field research, earthquake-prone soils, earthquake damage, data collection, data analysis, data curation, high-performance computing
  • Equipment, instrumentation for post-earthquake data collection
  • NSF-funded NHERI Extreme Event Reconnaissance teams
