About the Webinar
The presentation will provide an overview of the collaborative NEER/GEER field data collection efforts in response to Hurricane Helene’s and Milton’s impacts on the Gulf coast of Florida. It will focus specifically on combining measurement types to assemble meaningful case studies, investigating effects of storm surge driven erosion, scour, and soil failures and their impacts on the natural and built environments.

Nina Stark, PhD, Professor | Director of the University of Florida Center for Coastal Solutions
Nina Stark is the faculty lead of the University of Florida coastal & marine geotechnics research group and the Director of the Center for Coastal Solutions. Nina has received her MS (Diploma) in Geophysics in 2007 from the Westphalian Wilhelms University Muenster, Germany, and her PhD in Marine Geotechnics in 2011 from the University of Bremen, Germany. She was faculty at Virginia Tech from 2013-2023 and joined the University of Florida in 2023. Nina has received the NSF CAREER award in 2018, the ONR Young Investigator Award in 2018, and was leading the SERDP Project of the Year in 2022. She has co-led or participated storm and flood reconnaissance missions in response to Hurricane Harvey 2017, Hurricane Irma 2017, the Western European floods 2021, the Yellowstone flood 2022, and Hurricanes Helene and Milton 2024.
