About the Workshop

You are invited to attend the NHERI Wave Research Laboratory Users' Workshop to be held virtually on December 10, 2021. This workshop is being organized by the US National Science Foundation's (NSF) Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) Experimental Facility at the O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory at Oregon State University.

The workshop goal is to support potential users in conceiving, developing, designing, and proposing research projects that utilize either or both the Large Wave Flume or the Directional Wave Basin. Workshop sessions will cover:

  1. the facility science plan;
  2. principles of wave & surge and tsunami modeling;
  3. facility staff, equipment and science capabilities;
  4. example research projects;
  5. data management and DesignSafe;
  6. education and outreach for broader impacts;
  7. NSF funding opportunities,
  8. how to arrange consultation on research concepts and proposals, and
  9. workshop discussion and Q&A.

The workshop will be held on zoom and the session will be from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM Pacific on December 10, 2021. Workshop registration is required. We welcome participants from industry and academia, including early career faculty and senior graduate students or post-docs working with faculty on research projects or proposals.

Additional information about the facility and ongoing research projects can be found at: NSF Award #203791, and NHERI OSU Experimental Facility.

If you are interested in learning more about using the facility but are unable to attend the workshop, we will be hosting “office” hours for one-on-one discussions with interested users. If you any questions regarding the workshop or facility or if you would like more information about our office hours, please contact Pedro Lomonaco.
