2021 Intensive Workshop

University of Washington. Seattle, WA
Tentative Dates: July 27-30, 2021

The RAPID facility supports and provides tools for the collection of perishable field data relevant to natural hazard events. On July 27-30, The RAPID will host a hands-on, intensive workshop providing attendees with the opportunity to develop expertise in using The RAPID equipment to collect data, processing the data, and integrating the reconnaissance and collected data through the use of The RAPID software (the RApp) and DesignSafe.

  • Day 1 will offer an overview of The RAPID, its equipment and capabilities, and an introduction to reconnaissance planning and data archiving (in collaboration with DesignSafe).
  • Day 2 will allow workshop participants to select different tracks from emphasis areas to gain more specialized expertise with equipment and processes of interest. Potential tracks include (i) site characterization, (ii) coastal applications, (iii) Mobile data collection with lidar, Streetview, and RApp.
  • Days 3 and 4 will provide introductory hands-on training for terrestrial lidar and drone-based image collection, including an introduction to the data processing software and methods used to construct 3D point cloud models from the collected data.

The workshop will conclude with proposal preparation activities that will emphasize integration of reconnaissance missions and science across disciplines.
