UC San Diego Joint Researcher Workshop
With Lehigh & SimCenter

December 16-17, 2019 | UC San Diego, La Jolla, CA

This second in a series of collaborative workshops between NHERI UC San Diego, NHERI Lehigh and the NHERI SimCenter at UC Berkeley will be held at the NHERI@UC San Diego’s Large High Performance Outdoor Shake Table facility (LHPOST) in La Jolla, CA. Following a successful workshop hosted at Lehigh in September 2019, this workshop will enable participants to learn more about all three facilities capabilities, to network with colleagues in the natural hazard mitigation field, and seek guidance on planned research proposals.

The goals of this workshop are to:

  • Present the capabilities of the NHERI UC San Diego, NHERI Lehigh, and NHERI SimCenter at UC Berkeley facilities
  • Provide researchers with information and demonstrations of the NHERI UC San Diego and NHERI Lehigh facilities and capabilities, and hands-on examples of the use of the NHERI SimCenter latest capabilities
  • Present example research projects conducted using these facilities and provide suggestions on proposal preparation and planning to future users
  • Support research teams planning proposals using all three or two of the three facilities
  • Discuss grand challenge earthquake engineering research topics and stimulate collaboration amongst attendees to develop larger collaborative multi-university proposals

Limited participant support costs up to $600 per participant are available and should be requested at the time of registration. Participant support funding will be distributed on a first-come basis until all funds are allocated, but priority will be given to early career faculty and new users who plan to submit NSF proposals that intend to use the NHERI EFs or to use data accessible through DesignSafe. Participant support will be provided through reimbursement following the submittal and review of allowable expense receipts at the conclusion of the workshop. All participant support funding will be confirmed by NHERI UC San Diego to registrants no later than 7 business days after registration is completed so that travel arrangements can be made by the registrant.

For planning purposes, the workshop is tentatively scheduled to begin at 8:00 am on Monday, December 16 and conclude by 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 17.
