Structural control systems are regarded as momentous technologies boosting the development of smart structures and have been the center of attention for improving the safety against natural hazards in recent decades. Among different structural control configurations, Controlled Rocking Steel Brace Frames (CRSBFs) are of the modern systems recently proposed to be used in building structures. CRSBFs are known for their effective energy dissipation and self-centering features. Post Tensioned (PT) strands and shear fuses are the distinct features respectively providing the self-centering and energy dissipation mechanisms in a CRSBF. In this project, an optimal performance-based control co-design framework for CRSBFs is developed. The framework is evaluated using the example of a 6-stroy 3D building structure. The Neural Dynamic (ND) model of Adeli and Park is utilized for the design optimization problem. The objective function is comprised of two normalized terms to account for the main frame weight and the overall cross-sectional area of the PT strands. The minimization of the objective function is then subjected to several constraints based on design code requirements. To evaluate the seismic performance, nonlinear time history analyses are carried out considering the collapse prevention performance level and maximum considered earthquake level. The design optimization model as well as the structural simulation scripts are provided. The numerical outputs for the optimization and structural models are also included.
