Extreme Events Research in the NHERI Network

Extreme events researchers affiliated with the NHERI network come together through the NHERI CONVERGE(opens a new window) facility to conduct post-disaster reconnaissance missions, collect perishable data, and make that information publicly available on the NHERI DesignSafe Data Depot. Extreme events investigators also conduct mitigation- and recovery-focused NSF-funded research spurred by key disaster events.

(opens a new window)The NHERI CONVERGE facility(opens a new window), based at the University of Colorado Boulder, serves as the administrative hub for the Extreme Event Reconnaissance and Research (EER) groups funded by NSF. CONVERGE is the social-science-led component of the NHERI network that is focused on improving research coordination and advancing convergence research. NHERI DesignSafe Cyberinfrastructure supports reconnaissance data collection and curation efforts. Interested in reconnaissance data? Visit the NHERI Reconnaissance Portal. Seeking damage assessment reports from NHERI-affiliated Extreme Events groups? Visit the NHERI DesignSafe Data Depot. The DesignSafe-CI also supports the NHERI network Slack channel, which reconnaissance teams use to communicate during their missions. Users must join the NHERI Slack channel to participate.

NHERI Network Coordination Office

The NHERI NCO is integral to linking the NSF-NHERI experimental, simulation, and other shared use components that facilitate and advance the work of the natural hazards reconnaissance and research communities.
