The Florida Coastal Monitoring Program (FCMP) is a collaborative experimental effort to measure ground level hurricane surface winds. This publication provides data files of ground level wind speed and direction measured along the east coast of Florida during landfall of Hurricanes: Irene 1999, Gordon 2000, Lili 2002, Charley 2004, Ivan 2004, Jeanne 2004, Dennis 2005, Katrina 2005, Rita 2005, Wilma 2005, Gustav 2008, Hanna 2008 and, Ike 2008. Urbanists, social scientists, structural engineers, and meteorologists, among others, can use these real wind speed measurements and directions in myriad disaster research and planning projects.

This publication provides data files of ground level wind speed and direction measured during landfall of Hurricane Irene 1999. The data file is a Matlab structure that contains the number of data towers deployed as substructures (TX – where X is the number of the tower deployed). Inside of each tower the information of the tower deployed (substructure: Info) and the different heights where the data was collected (substructures: Height_05m and/or Height_10m). Inside of the Info substructure the user can find the location, latitude, longitude, the initial time of the data collected, the time zone of the initial time, the sampling rate and the units of the data collected (substructures: Location, Lat, Long, Initial_time, Time_zone, Sampling_rate and Units, respectively). Finally, per each substructure Height the user will be able to find the Speed (substructure: Speed) and Direction (Dir) of the ground level surface winds recorded.

This publication provides data files of ground level wind speed and direction measured during landfall of Hurricane Gustav 2008.

The data dictionary contains the storm track, the FCMP tower deployment locations, a summary of the data tower data provided, and the content and variables included in the data file as well as the aerial images and the 10 m wind speed and direction plots for each tower. The information about the instrumentation and data processing is included at the end of the document.
