Description:

Pressure distribution on different structures and buildings is an important factor to understand when these face extreme wind events. Using a smaller atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) wind tunnel in the Laboratory for Wind Engineering Research (LWER) at Florida International University (FIU), five models were tested with an approximate of 350 pressure taps each at a 1:100 scale. This research will evaluate the wind-induced pressures on buildings with irregular shapes. The models tested were Rectangular, S-, L-, C-, and T-shaped. The project will compare how irregular structures are affected compared to the rectangular model. The data from this project could be used to give recommendations on building codes. The shapes of residential structures are changing with time and it's important to understand them.
