Early Career Workshop: Leveraging the NHERI Science Plan to Design Your Research Agenda
April 19, 2024 | 1:30pm - 3:00pm CT
About the Webinar
The NHERI Science Plan, Third Edition serves to inspire and guide early-career researchers exploring disaster research in large-scale experimentation, computer modeling and simulation, the social sciences, and novel engineering techniques for mitigating damage from earthquake, wind, flood, fire and coastal hazards. Workshop participants will:
- explore the language and purpose of Grand Challenges and Key Research Questions in natural hazards engineering;
- learn ways to incorporate elements from sample research plans into their own research projects;
- see successful examples of multidisciplinary research; and
- gain practical insights about NSF-funded resources and facilities that can advance their research goals.
Workshop attendees should be familiar with the current edition of the NHERI Science Plan. Please download the document from DesignSafe DataDepot.
Presenter
Ian Robertson is the Arthur N.L. Chiu Distinguished Professor of Structural Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. As Senior Personnel on the NHERI Network Coordination Office, Robertson led the multi-disciplinary effort to produce the third edition of the NHERI Science Plan.
